Elastica are back with exciting new music

The music world has seen its heavyweights make a comeback, with names like Oasis, Pulp, and Blur reemerging from the shadows. But there is a fresh wave of excitement brewing, centered on the legendary Britpop outfit, Elastica.

Recently, the band reactivated their social media accounts, posting a nostalgic picture from the 1990s alongside a tantalizing message: “We’ve been busy behind the scenes, but we’re back. Keep your eyes peeled, there are some exciting things in the works.”

While the exact nature of these “exciting things” remains under wraps, the mere reappearance sparks speculation about what the future holds for the group—perhaps a reissue of classic material, or even the possibility of a reunion.

Elastica carved out a significant niche during the Britpop era, delivering one of the defining albums of the decade with their self-titled debut. That record featured essential tracks like “Connection,” “Stutter,” and “Waking Up,” setting a high bar for their contemporaries.

Despite this critical success, the band faced creative challenges. Their second album, The Menace, arrived in 2000 but did not generate the fanfare the first record received. Following this, the group dissolved in 2001, leaving behind a rich history that continues to inspire listeners.

The story of Elastica is further enriched by its formidable membership. Singer and guitarist Justine Frischmann brought unique influences, having been part of the Britpop power couple with Damon Albarn and having co-written some of her early work with M.I.A., including the track “Galang.”

The lineup also included guitarist Donna Matthews, who departed in 1998, and bassist Annie Holland. While Matthews left the group, the rhythm section evolved: drummer Justin Welch became a key figure in subsequent projects, having played with the reunited Lush in the 2010s and currently performing with The Jesus and Mary Chain.

Whether the current activity signals a nostalgic nod or the beginning of a new chapter remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the legacy of Elastica continues to resonate, keeping fans eager to see what comes next.
