Ed Sheeran crew hit by stage equipment rushed to hospital
The high-energy spectacle of an Ed Sheeran concert in Detroit took an unexpected and sobering turn for the crew, as six workers were rushed to the hospital following an accident on stage.
The incident occurred on Saturday, August 29, while crews were busy dismantling the stage following the singer-songwriter’s performance at the Detroit Ford Field. Fire department dispatch audio revealed that crews were dispatched to the stadium around 11 p.m. local time to address what was initially described as a forklift injury accident.
The accident took place when the stage equipment reportedly lost control near a ramp in a vehicle tunnel, striking several crew members just as they were moving away to take a break.
While the incident was serious, thankfully none of the six crew members suffered life-threatening injuries. However, the need for immediate medical attention was clear: two patients were reportedly in serious condition, while the remaining four were in stable condition. One worker required an overnight stay in the hospital.
Following the incident, the Detroit Ford Stadium initiated a full review and worked closely with appropriate authorities and production partners. In a statement, the stadium expressed gratitude for the rapid response from the Detroit Fire Department and EMS, emphasizing that they would not speculate on the cause of the accident, respecting the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
The focus quickly shifted from the on-site accident to the ongoing excitement surrounding Ed Sheeran’s global schedule. Just a day later, Sheeran delivered a surprise performance at the Pokémon World Championships at the Chase Center in San Francisco. He performed the Pokémon Theme Song and a rendition of his 2022 Pokémon Scarlet & Violet anthem, ‘Celestial,’ demonstrating his unique blend of musical and pop culture appeal.
