Dutcher and Yo-Yo Ma tour: Reimagining Ultestakon in Japan and Taiwan

Ma described the upcoming performance as a “journey through rupture and repair, from Shostakovich’s raw accounting of humanity at its most destructive to a celebration of indigenous knowledge a path to reweaving the fabric of our planetary future.”
The collaboration blends the deep classical mastery of Ma with Dutcher’s unique, evocative voice, creating an experience that bridges centuries and cultures. Dutcher has already shared his genius through projects like the Kyoto Sessions, where he performed his reimagined composition Ultestakon inside a century-old traditional Japanese home, demonstrating his deep connection to global musical heritage.
The tour itinerary is packed with incredible stops. Before heading to the Far East, Dutcher will take the spotlight in North America, performing three shows in Toronto, Ontario; Brandon, Manitoba; and Calgary, Alberta. These Canadian performances carry a special purpose, serving to raise funds for the 25 First Nations communities across Canada that were actively impacted by wildfires.
The journey then pivots to Asia, where the collaboration will continue. The tour includes performances in Taiwan and Japan, culminating in a memorable run before Dutcher heads off to France for additional gigs, broadening the reach of this unique artistic venture.
