Duran Duran Albums Go to Postage Stamps
Duran Duran, the celebrated architects of the New Romantic sound, is receiving a truly royal stamp of approval. Britain’s Royal Mail is launching a limited collection of stamps and collectibles dedicated to celebrating the band’s four decades of innovative creativity and influence.
This special release features iconic artwork spanning eight classic Duran Duran albums, offering fans a chance to immortalize their favorite era. The collection includes pieces from the debut self-titled album of 1981, Rio, Seven And The Ragged Tiger, Notorious, the self-titled 1993 comeback collection known as The Wedding Album, and the 2021 release, Future Past.
The mail service frames this tribute with the headline, BOLD. VISIONARY. EVER-EVOLVING. The accompanying message, From bold beginnings to boundless creativity, perfectly captures the enduring spirit of the group.
The bounty for collectors is substantial, offering more than 30 unique items, including stamp sets, posters, presentation packs, postcards, and framed sheets. Pieces are available starting September 17th, with the smallest item being a Duran Duran “First Day” envelope available for 30p (40c).
For those looking to capture the definitive moment, the full sheet of 1st Class stamps commemorating The Wedding Album will be priced at £86.40 ($116.85).
The initiative highlights the extraordinary career of the band, who rose to become arguably the biggest act in the world during the 1980s, though they have continued to enjoy a rare late-career renaissance.
Duran Duran’s legacy is rich with accolades. The group has amassed countless awards throughout their history, including the Brit Awards’ Lifetime Achievement, two Ivor Novellos, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, two Grammy Awards, and a long-overdue induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.
The recognition doesn’t stop there. In 2024, frontman Simon Le Bon was honored by King Charles with a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to music and charity.
Le Bon himself praised the new Royal Mail offering, calling the stamp collection a “massive visual validation of the band and its history.”
Duran Duran joins a small, elite circle of musical legends who have been celebrated by the Royal Mail with special stamp issues, alongside acts like AC/DC, The Who, and the Spice Girls.
