Dolly Parton: Doctor says health issues ‘Clipped My Wings’

The excitement surrounding the launch of a new attraction often features a host of celebrities, but this time, the star absence was a story of health and humor. Dolly Parton, the beloved country legend, missed the grand opening of the new NightFlight Expedition roller coaster at her namesake Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Despite her absence, the spirit of the celebration continued. Dollywood president Eugene Naughton shared a touching and whimsical video message, offering a warm welcome to the first riders of the park’s newest ride while expressing genuine regret that the singer could not be there in person.

In the video, Parton appeared with a playful twist, sprouting colorful butterfly wings and engaging in real-time interaction with Naughton. She offered an apology, explaining that she was still in Nashville and had planned to be there personally.

When asked about her absence, Parton offered a dose of characteristic wit. She candidly shared that recent “health issues” had played a role, noting that she sometimes experiences dizziness and dehydration. This, she joked, might explain why her Nashville doctor advised her against the two-hundred-mile trek to the park that week.

The singer delivered a lighthearted punchline, stating that if her doctor told her she “ain’t traveling this week,” then she certainly wasn’t. She finished by energetically encouraging Naughton to share the ride’s magic with the assembled fans and promised to catch up with them “down the road.”

This is not the first time Parton has navigated public life with health matters in the spotlight. She has largely stepped back from the public eye following the postponement of her Las Vegas residency in September due to undisclosed medical procedures. While she made a rare, highly publicized appearance in March to deliver the keynote address marking Dollywood‘s 41st anniversary, she maintained that she had been dealing with a few minor health issues that were being managed.
