Six weeks after his sudden passing, the world paused to celebrate the wonderfully absurd life of musician Oliver Tree. On Saturday, July 25th, friends, family, and collaborators gathered in Santa Cruz, California, for a public “Celebration of Life” that perfectly captured the surreal, boundary-pushing sensibility that defined his career.

The ceremony, held at the Quarry Amphitheater, was as uniquely Oliver Tree as he was. To mark the occasion, the stage featured three mannequins dressed in his signature aesthetic—complete with bright windbreakers, sunglasses, cowboy hats, and blunt bowl cuts—laid out in coffins. It was a beautiful, deeply fitting tribute to an artist who lived life in vibrant, unapologetic spectacle.

The event drew some of the industry’s brightest minds, including Diplo and Logan Paul, who shared heartfelt reflections on Tree’s enormous impact. Diplo described Tree as the coolest person he had ever met, while Paul delivered a eulogy steeped in Tree’s own comedic spirit, joking about the singer watching us all from “somewhere in the heavens,” likely feeling “super disappointed in this production.”

At the heart of the celebration was the enduring message about connection and adventure. “Oliver was everyone’s best friend,” attendees reflected. “He was an adventurer with an incomparable zest for life and the ultimate ability to make anyone feel seen and heard.” This sentiment underscored his role as a generational artist whose legacy, built on fearless creativity, would undoubtedly endure.

His family echoed this sentiment, offering a final piece of wisdom that beautifully summed up Oliver’s philosophy. They shared that Oliver always urged others to “trust yourself, get off the couch, produce art, and it’s really important to get in there and get your hands dirty.” They simply added, “He was a doer.”

Oliver Tree built a singular career spanning music, filmmaking, and viral internet spectacle. He thrived by frequently exploring absurdist alter egos and elaborate visual worlds, creating art that was as chaotic and captivating as his persona.

His musical journey included four major-label studio albums released through Atlantic Records: Ugly Is Beautiful (2020), Cowboy Tears (2022), Alone in a Crowd (2023), and Love You Madly Hate You Badly (2026). His debut, Ugly Is Beautiful, made an immediate splash, reaching No. 14 on the Billboard 200 and topping Billboard’s Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart.

Beyond his musical achievements, Oliver Tree ensured that his wealth would serve a meaningful purpose. In accordance with his will, all proceeds from the service benefited Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Grant for Baby Geniuses, a foundation established to support emerging artists and young minds.
