A Dinner for Legacy: Geoff Downes Joins the David Longdon Foundation

Ever dreamed of sharing a meal with musical titans and engaging in a conversation about the legacies that shape our world? Now is your chance to experience that magic at the inaugural Dinner For David, a unique event organized by the David Longdon Foundation.

This intimate dinner brings together celebrated figures from the world of progressive rock, offering fans a chance to sit at the table with artists whose work has profoundly shaped generations of listeners. The event is set to feature Geoff Downes, a legendary musician and member of the Downes Braide Association, as the guest of honour.

Downes will be joined by Asia guitarist John Mitchell, creating a gathering that beautifully bridges the worlds of music and philanthropy. The evening promises not just fine dining, but a meaningful celebration of music’s power to connect and heal.

The event takes place at the stylish Zoya Lounge in London’s King’s Cross on Friday, November 6th, a date that adds extra flavour as Asia simultaneously release their new album Indigo.

The foundation itself is dedicated to honoring the memory of David Longdon, a celebrated singer, multi-instrumentalist, and co-songwriter of Big Big Train. Through this new series, the foundation gives fans access to artists whose music has left an indelible mark on the landscape of sound.

For Downes, being the inaugural guest host is a source of immense honour. “I am very honoured and delighted to be the inaugural guest host at A Dinner For David,” he shared. “This is such a worthwhile cause. I hope you’ll all come and join me. It’s great to know that David’s rich musical legacy will live on through the work of this great charity.”

John Mitchell echoed this sentiment, expressing his delight at supporting the cause. “I am delighted to put my full support behind the David Longdon Foundation,” he said, noting his admiration for David Longdon’s talent and friendship.

Every penny raised during the event goes directly to the Foundation’s vital initiatives. Funds are dedicated to two core causes: the David Longdon Bursary, which provides funding and mentoring for UK musicians aged 18 to 30 from disadvantaged backgrounds, and music therapy delivered in partnership with Nordoff and Robbins, the UK’s leading music therapy charity.

The spirit of the gathering is deeply rooted in connection. Sarah Ewing, co-founder and trustee of the Foundation, highlighted the emotional core of the project, noting that David spent his life turning strangers into friends. “Geoff has made such a huge contribution to music for many decades,” she said, adding that the dinner felt very special, especially on the day of Indigo’s release.

The Foundation aims to ensure that the legacy of musical genius continues to inspire both creativity and empathy. Guests can secure their spot at this unique experience for £75, which includes a set-menu dinner and a commemorative menu. With only 35 places available, early booking is strongly recommended for those wishing to join this exceptional occasion.
