The Texas-based outfit Dexter and the Moonrocks are ready to rumble, announcing the forthcoming release of their debut album, Friends That I Don’t Like, on October 2. Released through Severance Records / Big Loud Rock, the new record signals a confident step into the Canadian music scene.

Following the album launch, the four-piece band is gearing up for an exciting run of Canadian dates, bringing their unique sound to Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario. Fans can catch the show starting in Calgary on February 9 and wrapping up in Ottawa on February 20.

For the drummer, Ryan Fox, this moment came after navigating the expectations and perceived stigmas of the Texas music scene.

“Coming up in the Texas music scene came with its own expectations and stigma,” Fox explained. “We always seemed to piss off the honky tonkers and underwhelm the old school metal heads, and to be quite frank, we never cared. People kept telling us we had to lean one way or the other, or else no one would ever care.”

The band’s response was a powerful assertion of their own identity. “I couldn’t tell you what Dexter and the Moonrocks means. Are we country, grunge, alt rock, southern rock? Honestly, who cares. All I know is that we’re here and we aren’t going anywhere,” he stated, emphasizing their commitment to authenticity above all else.
