Deftones Chino Moreno duet with Beabadoobee on ‘Satellite’

Orbiting Feelings: Chino Moreno and Beabadoobee Unveil ‘Satellite‘

In the world of indie rock, some connections just feel inevitable. That is the powerful, simmering dynamic between Chino Moreno of Deftones and Beabadoobee, perfectly captured in their new joint track, Deftones and Beabadoobee’s song, Satellite.

This evocative piece serves as the grand finale to Beabadoobee’s fourth studio album, ‘Pylon’, a record that explored the beautiful, messy experience of navigating mid-twenties life.

‘Satellite’ is more than just a song; it’s an emotional journey. Beatrice Laus, the voice behind Beabadoobee, sings of longing and vulnerability, painting a picture of chasing something just out of reach. Lines like, “I wonder if you think of me/ Like the way you used to/ I’m hanging upside down/ Don’t want to let you down again,” establish an intensely tender tone.

The track builds dramatically, culminating in a burst of heavy, distorted alt-rock. Chino Moreno adds subtle, soulful backing vocals that anchor the melody, allowing the song to explode into a cosmic chorus: “I’m looking up, under the stars/ I’m split in two, sing to the moon/ Orbiting you/ Like a satellite.”

Critics have seized on this emotional core. NME praised Beabadoobee for how she successfully “cements that feeling” of “always returning to someone, despite the passing of time” within the track. They noted that it is in these moments that Laus’ emotional maturity and songwriting credentials shine brightest.

The album ‘Pylon’ itself is a rich tapestry of influences. It features compelling contributions from a stellar group of artists, including Hayley Williams of Paramore, Brendan Yates of Turnstile, Evan Stephens Hall of Pinegrove, Matty Healy and George Daniel of The 1975, and George Daniel. Shane Moran of Title Fight also co-wrote numerous tracks on the LP, giving the record a wonderfully diverse and layered sound.

While the collaboration with Chino Moreno offers a lush, emotional peak, Beabadoobee is also making a significant leap forward as an artist. The album also included previous highlights like the single ‘Switchblade’ and ‘Sun Has Set’.

Adding momentum to her artistic journey, Beabadoobee is now embarking on a major international tour. She is set to headline her first-ever arena tours across the UK, Europe, and North America, kicking off with dates scheduled next month.
