Cristian Castro wins Lifetime Achievement Award at Billboard Awards 2026

The stage is set for a celebration of enduring musical royalty, as Mexican pop icon Cristian Castro is poised to receive the Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards. This accolade acknowledges a career that has profoundly shaped the landscape of Latin music over the past three decades.

In a recognition of his exceptional influence and enduring artistic contributions, the honor will be announced by Billboard and Telemundo on Tuesday, October 13. Castro, a figure synonymous with romantic pop, will also be featured for a special performance during the ceremony, which will be broadcast live on Thursday, October 22, at 8 p.m. ET on Telemundo and Peacock.

Castro’s journey to this recognition is marked by a remarkable run on the charts and an unparalleled connection with global audiences. His entry onto the Billboard charts began in 1992 with “No Podrás,” which quickly climbed to No. 3 on the Hot Latin Songs chart. His debut album, Agua Nueva, further cemented his standing, reaching No. 2 on the Top Latin Pop Albums chart in January 1993.

Throughout his career, Castro has achieved significant milestones, securing six No. 1 positions on the Hot Latin Songs chart with defining hits like “Nunca Voy a Olvidarte,” “Amor,” and “Azul.” His artistic legacy extends beyond charting success; his work includes tributes such as Viva El Príncipe, a celebrated homage to legendary Mexican singer José José, which reached No. 1 on Top Latin Albums in 2011.

With over 12 million records sold and continued engagement through tours like the Nada Solo Éxitos Tour, Castro remains a powerful force in the industry, performing for massive audiences in venues from Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional to New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
