Courteeners massive gig at Manchester Wythenshawe Park
The music world was treated to a spectacular display of nostalgia and raw energy last night as Courteeners delivered a sold-out homecoming show at Manchester’s Wythenshawe Park, drawing an audience of 30,000 fans.
The performance was a massive celebration, not just of the band, but of a storied career that spans two decades of anthemic songwriting. Joined by other celebrated acts, including The Vaccines, The Coral, Getdown Services, and Girl In The Year Above, the event blended contemporary rock with enduring musical history.
The setlist was a journey through their entire catalog, offering fans a retrospective of their evolution. Courteeners kicked off with tracks like Sweet Surrender and Are You In Love With A Notion? before diving deep into their studio history. They masterfully wove in material from all seven studio albums, alongside newer tracks from their compilation, God Bless The Band, showcasing a deep connection to their sound.

Frontman Liam Fray embraced the massive crowd, reflecting on the incredible experience. “Let’s fucking have you, Wythenshawe!” he shouted to the enthusiastic audience. He later admitted how surreal the moment was, stating, “Never, ever, ever in our wildest dreams did we think we’d be playing a crowd this big!”
This homecoming is just the latest chapter in a long tradition of massive hometown gigs. Courteeners have consistently delivered unforgettable shows, including a sold-out 25,000-capacity gig at Heaton Park in 2015, and a poignant show at the Emirates Old Trafford in 2017, which became a powerful display of city solidarity.
Their dedication to connecting with their fans remains unwavering. More recently, the band captured their live energy on the 20-track album Live In Manchester, which arrived in late December, further cementing their impact.
Looking ahead, the momentum is building for an ambitious new phase. Courteeners are gearing up for a six-date UK arena tour in November, taking their sound to major venues across the country, including London, Leeds, Cardiff, Liverpool, Glasgow, and Birmingham. This tour offers fans a chance to experience their enduring sound on a grander scale.
