Charli XCX: Tour dates felt emotionally and physically hard
The spotlight is always intense, and for some artists, the transition from global phenomenon to relentless road warrior comes with a heavy price tag. Charli XCX, the electrifying pop icon, recently addressed the understandable frustration among fans regarding the limited schedule for the upcoming Music, Fashion, Film tour across the UK and Europe.
The announcement of a six-show run spanning major cities like Dublin, Glasgow, Manchester, London, Amsterdam, and Paris had generated significant buzz, but also disappointment over the number of arena dates. In response to the comments, Charli offered a candid look behind the curtain of touring life.
“I know there’s a lot of frustration in the comments about the fact that I am not doing lots of dates,” she shared in an Instagram statement. “I am really sorry if you feel disappointed, but I have to honor my truth as an artist: touring is really emotionally and physically hard for me.”
She elaborated on the emotional toll, noting that she doesn’t possess the resilience some might expect from artists who manage intense, high-octane schedules. While she respects artists who handle these demands, she acknowledged that she is not one of them, explaining that this reflection also informed her decision to opt for a shorter run on her recent North American tour.
“I’m sorry if you feel I am letting you down; I really am,” Charli continued. “Perhaps one day I will be built for the kind of touring you expect from me, but right now I am not.” She expressed a genuine hope that both fans and herself would enjoy the shows, committing to staying in a healthy and positive mindset.
This European leg of the tour serves as a powerful platform for her latest artistic output, supporting her seventh studio album, Music, Fashion, Film. The album followed her explosive 2024 record Brat, marking another significant evolution for the Essex-raised artist. Brat had already cemented her status, debuting at No. 1 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart—a feat that made her the first British female artist to score two new No. 1 albums in the same calendar year.
Sonically, the shift was palpable. The new album leaned into darker, grittier rock sounds, showcasing a sharper, more mature side of Charli’s artistry.
The European tour kicks off a major creative cycle, preceding the extensive North American leg, which promises to be even more sprawling. The full tour itinerary includes a 12-date arena trek encompassing stops in New York, Toronto, Boston, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, before culminating in Las Vegas on October 23. Adding to the momentum, electronic artist Underscores will be joining Charli on the road.
