Carissa doesn’t feel right

Some musical legacies are worth waiting for, and the return of Carissa’s Wierd is certainly one of them. This Seattle-based duo, founded by Jenn Champion and Mat Brooke, carved out a reputation for crafting absolutely gorgeous, DIY indie records in the early 2000s. Now, after a significant hiatus, the group is back, ready to share a new chapter in their storied career.

The story of Carissa’s Wierd is rich with musical history. The band eventually dissolved in 2003, but the creative energy didn’t disappear—it simply branched out into other exciting projects, including the influential band Band Of Horses. Though the core duo split, the lineage remains strong, with Mat Brooke still remaining a founding member, and Ben Bridwell, the former leader of Carissa’s Wierd, continuing to steer the ship.

A brief reunion sparked in 2011 brought the members back together, reigniting the passion for their original sound. But the anticipation has now culminated in a major announcement: Carissa’s Wierd is preparing to release their first full album in twenty-five years, titled Somewhere Further Than Far Away.

The excitement has already begun, with the stunning lead single, No One Lives Here Anymore, already circulating. This return signals a fresh look at the group’s melodic sensibilities, demonstrating that the magic of their early work is far from over.
