Calvin Harris Slides Into Head Trip Day Two
The promise of an epic dance festival can often be derailed by the elements, but at Head Trip, the weather simply couldn’t stop the music. After an intense first night, Scottish superstar Calvin Harris decided to stick around, joining the lineup for the festival’s final day on Sunday, October 11th.
The excitement, however, took an unexpected turn. The inaugural night, held on Saturday, October 10th, was prematurely halted as Tropical Storm Rachel moved into Southern California. Lightning warnings necessitated a swift end to the festivities, adding a layer of impromptu drama to the high-energy event.
The unexpected pause became a moment destined for legend. In a scene that is already generating lore, the music was cut off during a performance by Fisher and Chris Lake, who were playing Lake’s 2022 track, Turn off the Lights.
Head Trip is more than just a concert; it’s a meticulously crafted experience set at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Produced in the style of Goldenvoice’s celebrated formats like Desert Trip and Power Trip, the festival is designed to immerse attendees in a single, sprawling stage environment, masterfully designed by High Scream.
The physical space itself is a marvel, uniting attendees inside one main stage while utilizing myriad satellite stations that project the stage feed, creating an immersive visual spectacle. Further enhancing the atmosphere is the inclusion of the Sunflower Soundsystem, a tent space curated by Floating Points, offering an alternative venue for discovery.
The festival’s energy continued unabated on the final day. Day two programming kicked off 25 minutes earlier than scheduled, setting the stage for an explosive conclusion. Headliners included DJ Harvey, The Blessed Madonna, Dom Dolla b2b Kettama, Skrillex, and the other architects of the EDM era, Harris and Swedish House Mafia, who delivered back-to-back performances.
The seamless transition between the initial weather-induced interruption and the massive final lineup showcased the resilience of the event. Head Trip continues to prove that even when nature steps in, the rhythm of the dance floor remains unstoppable. For those who missed the magic, livestreams and audio simulcasts were available across Apple Music, Twitch, YouTube, and other platforms, ensuring the experience reached a wider audience.
