The chill of the Arctic meets the warmth of Canadian comedy as the highly anticipated second season of the Arctic-set series North of North is gearing up for a new adventure. Bringing a fresh energy to the screen are revered comedian Bruce McCulloch and singer-songwriter Elisapie, who are set to make a significant appearance in the upcoming installment.
This new chapter continues the exploration of life in the North, filmed amidst the stunning landscapes between Iqaluit and Toronto. The show, which previously garnered nine wins at the Canadian Screen Awards for its debut season, is driven by the creative vision of executive-producers Stacey Algok MacDonald and Althea Arnaquq-Baril, promising a narrative that is both hilarious and profoundly moving.
Season two dives deep into the theme of building a life, showing how the journey from impulse to intention requires both hustle and careful planning. The story is anchored by the character of Military Mitch, brought to life by the star of Kids in the Hall, who takes on the role of an instructor hired to teach essential first aid at the Ice-Cove Community Centre.
Meanwhile, the musical talents of Elisapie shine alongside the story, coinciding with the debut of a brand new song that will be featured prominently in the season.
At its heart, North of North Season two is a celebration of resilience, guided by the Inuktitut concept of Pilimmaksarniq—the philosophy of mastering skills through observation, practice, and effort. The protagonist, Inuk mother Siaja (Anna Lambe), faces the challenge of putting in the necessary work to prove to her tight-knit Arctic community and herself that she is ready to take charge of her future.
Fans can tune in to discover this compelling narrative on APTN+ starting September 1. Following that, the series will be available on CBC Gem, CBC TV, and APTN TV on September 8. For a global audience, North of North will launch Season 2 on Netflix later in the fall.
