This isn’t just a simple gig; it’s a full circle moment for musicians who shared creative circles and members with acts like Bright Eyes and Cursive. The core trio of Mike Mogis, Ted Stevens, and Shane Aspegren are pulling the strings again, bringing back a sound that has deep roots in acoustic experimentation.
The LFTWC lineup for this exciting run is full of familiar and new faces. Alongside Mogis, the band will feature members like Nate Walcott, who contributed to their early recordings, along with Megan Siebe (who also played in Cursive) and Macey Taylor and Tiffany Kowalski, rounding out a potent ensemble.
The origins of Lullaby for the Working Class were born from an experimental desire to create folk-based music using only acoustic instruments. Before forming the band, Mogis and Stevens had navigated loud punk and rock scenes, making their shift to acoustic folk an entirely new and exhilarating world for them.
These musicians shared a rich history that spans decades. Mogis recalls how his time with Ted and Lullaby taught him invaluable lessons as a musician and producer. This foundation extended to collaborations, including working with Nate Walcott, who provided trumpet on their early records, and embarking on formative tours across the country and Europe in the late nineties.
The band’s journey was marked by shared experiences—from driving around the country piled into a Chevy Transvan to taking a memorable tour of Europe. Their bond deepened during challenging times, culminating in a unique moment when they reunited in 2010 for the Concert for Equality in Omaha.
Now, that history is being woven into a new chapter. Mogis expresses his excitement about this return, noting that while they will be opening for Bright Eyes, they plan to play together for both sets, honoring their classic dynamic from the old days. It’s a testament to enduring musical friendships.
The tour officially kicks off on October 3 in Minneapolis and stretches through October 18 in St. Louis, bringing this unique folk-rock sound to audiences across the country. Fans can secure tickets for all shows starting Friday, June 26 at 10 AM local time.
