Boyz II Men Go Country With New Record Deal
From R&B Roots to Nashville Dreams: Boyz II Men Embark on Country Journey
The sound of R&B has defined the careers of the Boyz II Men, who have built an undeniable global legacy with hits like End of the Road and One Sweet Day. Now, this beloved vocal trio is embarking on an exciting new adventure, trading their familiar R&B grooves for the twang of Nashville as they sign a major deal with Warner Records Nashville. This move signals a fascinating collision of genres, promising a fresh chapter for the group and an exploration of musical territory they have long been drawn to.
This isn’t just a genre switch; it’s a deep dive into shared musical DNA. Group member Wanya Morris explains that while their foundation is firmly rooted in R&B, the appeal of country music is deeply resonant. “We’ve reached our tentacles out over many years and dabbled in other types of music, but R&B is the root of who we are,” Morris shared. “And I think that’s why it’s so easy for us to fall in love with country music, because the melodies are similar. The meanings are similar. The feelings are similar. So, it’s almost like we feel at home doing it.”
This intuitive connection has already manifested in their musical history. The Boyz II Men are not newcomers to country music; they have already established a strong presence within the genre, marked by their Grand Ole Opry debut in 2018 and performances with artists like Cody Johnson at the Stagecoach festival. Their history demonstrates a natural affinity for the storytelling and melody that defines country music.
Their collaborative spirit extends beyond their own music. Their work, such as the track I Love the One with Lady A, has already been featured on the compilation Songs Inspited by The Chosen: Seasons 1-5, showcasing their ability to blend influences across the musical spectrum.
The significance of this pivot is recognized by industry leaders. Cris Lacy, Chair/President of Warner Records Nashville, noted the profound impact the group has had. “Boyz II Men’s global influence is decades in the making,” Lacy commented. “Every genre and culture has benefited from their original music, and their impact on artists in the current country landscape, while perhaps surprising to some, is quite profound.”
The group’s journey is further highlighted by their diverse achievements. Beyond their evolving musical landscape, they have also cemented their visibility in reality television, becoming the first group to win The Masked Singer in 2025. Their recent activities also show a continuing connection to cultural moments, including performing the National Anthem for the Philadelphia 76ers during their home opener.
Their previous studio work, such as their 2017 album Under the Streetlight, further demonstrates their versatility, featuring covers of hits from the 1950s and 1960s. As they step into the Nashville scene, the Boyz II Men are poised to blend their established, soulful voice with country tradition, creating a sound that is both familiar and refreshingly new.
