Bowie80 celebration 2027 events releases and collaborations

The world is gearing up for a monumental celebration, as a spectacular series of events, releases, and collaborations are set to sweep the globe in honor of the late music icon David Bowie. Dubbed Bowie80, the festivities are designed not just to mark a milestone, but to re-examine the enduring artistry and resilient spirit of a legend.

Kicking off this global celebration, a packed schedule of special events, releases, and fan experiences will run throughout 2027, marking what would have been Bowie’s 80th birthday. From immersive shop experiences to groundbreaking artistic collaborations, the tribute promises to be an unparalleled journey through the life and work of the artist.

The initiative launches with high-profile retail partnerships. Nordstrom is spearheading the celebration by opening three immersive shops in Seattle, New York City, and Chicago, each offering exclusive and limited-edition collections. These stores are joined by collaborations with high-fashion houses including Undercover, Marc Jacobs, Paul Smith, and AllSaints, blending Bowie’s iconic aesthetic with contemporary design.

Beyond fashion, the celebration delves into art and performance. A major photography exhibition, Strange Fascination, will explore the evolution and artistry of the songwriter, showcasing his work at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in New York City and West Hollywood in February. Simultaneously, a new live symphonic concert production, BOWIE (breaking) GLASS, developed by Schirmer Theatrical and Østre Gasværk Teater, promises a visual and musical dialogue with Philip Glass, with a world premiere scheduled for Copenhagen in Spring 2027.

The tribute also connects Bowie’s legacy to his personal history. In a poignant nod to his past, the celebration includes a tour featuring artifacts from Bowie’s 90,000-item archive, in collaboration with the V&A in London. This remarkable collection will travel across the UK, including stops in Dundee and Blackpool in 2027, and further venues in 2028 and 2029.

The celebration is also woven into the fabric of Bowie’s physical world. Plans are underway to restore and open to the public the house where Bowie wrote many of his early songs, located at 4 Plaistow Grove, in 2027, allowing fans a glimpse into the environment that shaped his creative genius.

New musical discoveries are also part of the retrospective. A previously unheard demo titled Today, taken from 1965 recordings featuring a pre-Led Zeppelin Jimmy Page, has been released, adding fresh depth to the exploration of his early work. This release further complements other explorations of his musical journey.

The excitement surrounding Bowie’s legacy continues to unfold, building on previous visual spectacles, such as the London Lightroom experience, and confirming that this multi-faceted initiative truly captures the multifaceted genius of a musical titan.
