Billy Ray Cyrus reacts to Miley’s new surname
The world of pop music is constantly evolving, and sometimes the most powerful changes happen not on a chart, but in the personal stories shared by the stars themselves. Recently, pop sensation Miley Cyrus shared a heartfelt moment about her identity, stepping into a new chapter under her own name, and the reaction from her family provided a beautiful perspective on legacy and connection.
The news of her evolving identity came alongside the announcement of her forthcoming album, Bass Persuades. This new musical venture marks a significant milestone, as it is set to be her tenth studio album and her first release through Atlantic Records.
Amidst the fanfare of a new artistic release, her father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, offered some insightful reflections on his daughter’s choice to embrace her name. He spoke about the deepening connection within their family, noting that family means more than ever, and shared a touching sentiment: “I always called my little girl Miley. Just … Miley.”
Cyrus drew parallels to other iconic figures, citing the famous and influential icons of pop culture—Cher, Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, and Prince—as examples of how a legendary superstar can evolve while retaining her core identity. He concluded that this shift was a natural progression for an iconic legend, emphasizing that the legend continues.
Miley Cyrus herself has also shared her feelings about the new record, describing the emotional landscape of the album. She noted that the music is a powerful mix of feeling: “Music takes hold of us. We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on. It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong.”
The album Bass Persuades is scheduled for release on September 18th. To celebrate this milestone, Miley will be taking the stage at two events at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 16th and 18th, supported by Model/Actriz.
This planned performance pairing is particularly meaningful, marking a rare appearance for Miley following discussions she had last year about her desire to tour, emphasizing the importance of mental well-being alongside artistic ambition.
Beyond the music, Miley has also recently paid a personal tribute to her late godmother, Dolly Parton, marking another touching chapter in the unfolding story of her life and legacy.
