Big Thief is finally opening the gates to its live vault, offering fans an unprecedented look into the dynamic, evolving world of their performances. This new online archive isn’t just a collection of recordings; it’s an attempt to capture the constantly shifting energy and “ever-undulating aliveness” that defines the band’s live sound.

The initiative was born from a desire to preserve the true spirit of their shows, inspired partly by drummer James Krivchenia’s deep appreciation for the extensive live catalogs of artists like the Grateful Dead. The band felt a strong need to create a space that could hold the unique atmosphere of each performance, recognizing that the songs sound and feel different every single night.

The resulting archive features a growing collection of concert recordings, offering fans access to previously unreleased songs and unique live moments. Beyond the recordings themselves, the project includes interactive features, allowing listeners to build their own custom playlists from the vast collection of performances.

The initial collection is packed with highlights, including a newly released live version of “Incomprehensible” from the album Double Infinity, recorded at Dublin’s 3Arena on April 29. Other featured performances showcase the breadth of the band’s journey, ranging from major venues to intimate settings.

Among the initial gems are performances that showcase the band’s growth, such as a visit to the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on September 27, 2025, featuring guests like ambient legend Laaraji and pedal steel wiz Greg Leisz. The archive also holds a complete performance of Double Infinity with its Hannah Cohen-featuring studio band at New York’s Forest Hills Stadium on October 25, 2025.

The recordings themselves are the result of meticulous work, featuring performances captured by the band’s front-of-house engineer Alice Wilder and monitor engineer Aleda Deroche, and mixed by 4AD’s in-house engineer Fabian Prynn.

Big Thief plans to keep this collection growing, intending to add another concert to the archive on the second Tuesday of every month, ensuring fans have ongoing access to their live history. It’s an invitation to revisit the myriad forms the band’s songs have taken onstage, preserving performances that might otherwise remain just memories. The band expressed immense gratitude to everyone who has been part of their journey, inviting listeners to experience the enduring power of their live music.
