Beyoncé’s ‘Morning Dew (Donk)’ tops Adult R&B Airplay

Beyoncé’s Birthday Blowout: How “Morning Dew” Rallied the Charts

When a birthday celebration aligns with musical dominance, the results are always spectacular. As Beyoncé marked her 45th birthday on September 4th, the music world was buzzing, and her latest single, “Morning Dew (Donk),” delivered a major victory, taking the crown on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart.

This powerful track not only climbed from the No. 3 spot but cemented its status as the most-played song on panel-contributing adult R&B radio stations across the United States for the tracking week of August 28th to September 3rd, according to Luminate.

Morning Dew” followed a string of remarkable achievements for the artist, including previous chart-topping singles like “Love on Top,” which reigned for seven weeks in 2012, and a pair of 2022 champions: “Break My Soul” and “Make Me Say It Again Girl.”

What made this latest ascent particularly noteworthy was the speed of the climb. “Morning Dew” captured the summit in its sixth week on the chart, demonstrating a faster rise to No. 1 than other recent chart-toppers; it surpassed “Make Me Say It Again Girl” in achieving the fastest ascent to the top slot.

The track itself added a layer of excitement, arriving as a surprise release on July 4th. It became Beyoncé’s 32nd entry on the Adult R&B Airplay chart and a Top 10 hit, fueling much of the popular speculation among fans about the song’s origins.

Reportedly, “Morning Dew” was recorded around the era of the B’Day album in 2013. A snippet was leaked in 2021, and the song eventually became a major talking point, sparking widespread TikTok trends before its official release.

Upon its debut, “Morning Dew” served as a preview for the 20th anniversary edition of her celebrated album, B’Day, which arrived with an expanded set of 31 tracks. This deluxe edition features official releases of collaborations with major artists including Pharrell Williams, Maluma, and Selena.

The original B’Day album, released in 2006, already made a huge impact, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and launching Beyoncé’s biggest Billboard Hot 100 hit, “Irreplaceable.”

Beyond the Adult R&B category, “Morning Dew” demonstrated broad appeal. It also climbed on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, combining audience totals from both adult and mainstream stations. Thanks to its powerful performance, the song reached 13.8 million audience impressions in the tracking week, marking an 18% increase from the previous week and securing the weekly Greatest Gainer award for the largest audience gain.
