Beck Hitches’ Ride to a New Album

The genre-hopping maestro Beck is back, and this time, he’s bringing a whole new atmospheric shift to the table. After taking a creative pause, the songwriter has announced Ride Lonesome, his latest collection of music set to arrive on September 18 through Capitol Records.

This new offering is more than just a new album; it feels like an evolution. It marks a deliberate move away from the sleek, electronic textures that defined his previous work, including Hyperspace, stepping instead into the hushed, atmospheric soundscapes reminiscent of eras like Sea Change and Morning Phase.

The creative energy behind the project was fueled by some truly stellar collaborations. Beck brought back a familiar roster of musicians, including Smokey Hormel, Joey Waronker, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Roger Joseph Manning Jr., and Jason Falkner, deepening the sonic tapestry with their collective expertise.

A glimpse into this new sound is found in the single “In the Night,” a subdued meditation on late-night introspection. The track blends Beck’s understated vocals with lush instrumentation, perfectly produced and mixed by Beck and longtime collaborator Nigel Godrich.

The process of creating Ride Lonesome was as introspective as the music itself. Beck convened with his touring band at his favorite studio, Room B at United Studios in Hollywood. This session marked a return to a shared musical and physical space, allowing the playing and chemistry to evolve and deepen over the years.

While revisiting that familiar environment, the group discovered new emotional textures, weaving together decades of working history into something fresh and compelling. The resulting album is a testament to continuous growth and artistic exploration.
