Beatles Merch Licensing Deal and E-Commerce Strategy

The legacy of The Beatles is hitting the big screen, and the excitement is only growing. As the four legendary musicians’ biopics move closer to their April 2028 simultaneous release, the partnership between Universal Music Group and Apple Corps has solidified a major global deal, focusing on bringing the band’s incredible brand and legacy to life across every platform.

This new agreement covers the licensing, merchandising, and e-commerce businesses associated with The Beatles, ensuring that their enduring cultural impact is protected and expanded through authentic fan experiences. This move underscores how deeply the music remains a potent, global force.

The cinematic journey promises to be an immersive experience. The upcoming four-part films will explore the lives of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, each told from their unique perspectives. The cast lineup is already glittering, featuring Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, with James Norton stepping into the role of manager Brian Epstein. Director Sam Mendes is steering this cinematic event, aiming to deliver The Beatles — A Four Film Cinematic Event.

Beyond the films, the project is tied into a rich history of cinematic exploration, recalling The Beatles’ own history of filmmaking, from classics like A Hard Day’s Night to the documentary Let It Be. These new features mark a significant step, granting the band members and their estates full life rights and full music rights through Apple and UMG.

The vision doesn’t stop with the screen. The project feeds into an ambitious physical experience planned for 2027: The Beatles At 3 Savile Row. This seven-floor fan experience will open Apple Corps’ archive of memorabilia and exhibitions, offering fans a chance to explore the history of the band, including a recreation of the studio space where they recorded Let It Be and the location of their iconic rooftop concert.

The partnership speaks to the enduring relevance of The Beatles’ message. As UMG chairman/CEO Lucian Grainge noted, the group embodies music’s power to change the world. This global collaboration is set to delight millions by celebrating the artists’ artistry while nurturing their legacy, looking forward to the films and the upcoming fan experiences.

Tom Greene, the newly-minted CEO of Apple Corps, expressed enthusiasm about the move, stating that there has never been a more exciting time to work on The Beatles as they prepare for the 2028 films and the 2027 fan experience. The collaboration promises to deliver a monumental celebration of one of music history’s most iconic acts.
