Back catalogue dropped after Walliams conduct claims

A significant chapter in the career of author and comedian David Walliams appears to have closed with the reportedly dropped back catalogue of his children’s books.

The publisher HarperCollins has confirmed that it is phasing out remaining copies of Walliams’ extensive collection, following claims of inappropriate conduct.

Walliams has established a considerable presence in children’s literature, having penned 23 titles that have captivated millions worldwide. His bibliography includes popular works such as The Boy In The Dress, Billionaire Boy, and Gangsta Granny Strikes Again!.

This move by HarperCollins comes after the company announced plans in late 2025 to refrain from releasing any new titles by the star of Little Britain following “careful consideration.”

The publisher confirmed that they would gradually phase out the stock of Walliams’ books across retail stores and online platforms, including e-books and audio versions.

When the news broke, Walliams has maintained a firm stance regarding the allegations, stating that he strongly denies any inappropriate behaviour and is currently taking legal advice.

His representative further clarified that the writer had never been informed of the allegations by HarperCollins and was not involved in any investigation.

The backdrop to this development involves a career marked by public attention. Walliams rose to fame in the early 2000s as a co-creator of the BBC sketch show Little Britain, and later as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent.

The public scrutiny of his career has been intense, particularly following leaked recordings from the Britain’s Got Talent proceedings, which led to a high-profile legal dispute concerning private remarks.

This ongoing context also saw further professional consequences, including the removal of Walliams from the line-up of the Waterstones Children’s Book Festival.
