Artists celebrate 20 years of Back To Black at the Roundhouse

Twenty years after a seismic moment in music history, the legacy of Amy Winehouse was celebrated in style and soul at London’s iconic Roundhouse. The event, marking the 20th anniversary of her landmark album Back To Black, was less a concert and more a glittering retrospective, drawing a constellation of musical talent to honor a legend.

The night showcased the enduring power of the ‘Back To Black‘ tracklist, performed by Amy Winehouse Band, joined by original producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi. It was a celebration that brought together collaborators, family, and a spectacular array of vocalists who lent their voices to the iconic songs.

Beyond the core lineup, the stage was filled with an impressive roster of guests, creating a tapestry of contemporary and classic sounds. The evening featured vocalists such as Corinne Bailey Rae, Jorja Smith, Lianne La Havas, Jessie Reyez, and FLO, alongside rising stars like Baby Rose, Sasha Keable, Skye Newman, and Yebba, all contributing to an unforgettable atmosphere.

The musical interplay was electric. The group delivered classics like ‘Back To Black’ and ‘Love Is A Losing Game’, while the tributes were layered with fresh interpretations. Corinne Bailey Rae brought a smooth rendition of the title track, while FLO delivered their own inspired spin on ‘He Can Only Hold Her’, adding a unique perspective to the beloved material.

The setlist was a masterclass in musical homage, moving seamlessly through deep cuts and fan favorites. Highlights included Nia Smith performing ‘Tears Dry On Their Own’, Terri Walker tackling ‘Me & Mr Jones’, and Lianne La Havas playing ‘You Know I’m No Good’. The performance concluded with a collective singalong of ‘Valerie’, bringing the energy to a peak.

The Roundhouse itself holds profound significance in Winehouse’s story, as it was the venue for her final public appearance in 2011. The celebration felt deeply rooted in this history, paying tribute to the powerful artistic journey of an artist who left an indelible mark on global music. The event served as a wonderful preamble to the upcoming deluxe 20th-anniversary reissue of Back To Black, which promises to bring even more treasures to music fans.
