The ruling was handed down by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mark H. Epstein, who granted the singer a fast-track subpoena. This crucial decision bypasses the lengthy waiting period typically required in privacy lawsuits, giving Grande the necessary tools to track down and identify the perpetrators who invaded her personal online accounts.
The lawsuit, filed earlier this year, alleged that individuals used stolen login credentials and phishing schemes to breach the personal online accounts of Grande, her photographers, and her producers. The stolen material included sensitive assets such as footage from recording sessions, demos, and unreleased masters, which were then illicitly traded on the dark web.
The scale of the alleged breach is staggering. Grande and her legal team claimed that 45 songs were stolen and leaked in 2023 alone, with hundreds of similar incidents occurring since 2011, each instance causing irreparable harm.
Recognizing the urgent need to halt further losses, Grande pushed the court to accelerate the proceedings. Legal experts noted that delaying the process risked the permanent loss of the necessary account and login data needed to identify the defendants.
In his ruling, Judge Epstein explicitly stated that the standard 20-day waiting period would not apply, noting that the plaintiff could not determine the identity of the defendants without the requested discovery. This ruling effectively empowers Grande to demand the identities of those responsible for the digital theft.
While the legal fight unfolded, Grande continued to navigate her public life, currently enjoying a demanding 10-date residency at London’s O2 Arena for her ‘Eternal Sunshine’ tour.
