Apple Fleetwood Mac Doc Drops in January
The enduring legacy of Fleetwood Mac is about to receive a cinematic spotlight. More than two years after the band members received the MusiCares Person of the Year award, a feature-length documentary detailing their journey is set to arrive, promising an intimate look at the chaotic brilliance that forged their timeless music.
Apple TV will release the first authorized documentary, The Chain, on January 29. The project, directed by Frank Marshall, delves into how the band’s struggles, personal resilience, and sheer musical dexterity combined to create songs that have achieved legendary status.
Marshall, known for his work on iconic bands like The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart and The Beach Boys, stated that the film will explore how Fleetwood Mac managed to weave their often tumultuous personal lives into their musical narrative in real time. It is, in essence, a film about the music and the people who made it.
The documentary will feature never-before-seen footage, fresh interviews with surviving members, and archival clips, including material from Christine McVie, who passed away in 2022. It is an opportunity to witness the genesis of masterpieces that have stood the test of time.
The history itself is rich with shifts and evolution. While the band navigated personal trials, their musical output remained a source of undeniable genius. This retrospective offers a powerful lens through which to examine that history.
In the years following the release of the film, the members have continued to pursue their own creative paths. Lindsey Buckingham, for example, stepped away from the spotlight for a period, focusing on his next solo album, slated for 2027. Meanwhile, Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood are set to release solo albums next year, marking their first major solo efforts since 2014 and 1981, respectively. These releases promise new chapters in the ongoing story of the legendary group.
