Andy Burrows drops new music Map Of The World and Nothing Matters Anyway

Andy Burrows Unveils ‘Map Of The World‘, Charting a Course for Freedom

Drummer Andy Burrows is charting a new course, announcing the release of his solo album Map Of The World, anchored by the evocative single Nothing Matters Anyway. This project marks Burrows’ first solo offering in seven years, delivering a fresh perspective on themes of freedom and acceptance.

Set for release on January 29, 2027, the album will be released through Burrows’ own label, Free Pass Records. The creative foundation of the record is built entirely by Burrows, who recorded the material predominantly in his home studio in Gloucestershire. Adding depth to the soundscape are contributions from musical heavyweights, including Editors frontman Tom Smith, Manic Street Preachers, Nicky Wire, and the band We Are Scientists, alongside Keith Murray, Burrows’ brother Ben, and his daughter Joni.

The accompanying single, Nothing Matters Anyway, serves as an immediate, bombastic preview of the album’s spirit. The track is built around driving, ’70s-inspired instrumentation and layered vocal harmonies, capturing a powerful, liberating message. Burrows has articulated the motivation behind the song, emphasizing a move away from negativity: “It’s supposed to be freeing, not negative. We spend so much time caring about what people think, especially with phones and social media. And then you realise: no one gives a shit!”

The album title itself is inspired by a lyric given to Burrows by Nicky Wire, inscribed in gold lettering, linking the new work to a deeper, shared history in the music world. The project also features a reunion with his old collaborator, Tom Smith of Editors, with the track Seriously. This pairing echoes their earlier work on Only Smith & Burrows Is Good Enough.

Burrows’ artistic journey is rich with diverse collaborations and deeply personal themes. Before this solo venture, he explored mental health in his work with author Matt Haig, resulting in the acclaimed album Reasons To Stay Alive. He shared that working with Haig allowed him to infuse his music with “hope and optimism,” fostering an acceptance of anxiety both internally and externally.

Beyond his solo work, Burrows has carved out a significant presence in film and television scoring. He has composed scores for projects including The Snowman And The Snowdog with Ilan Eshkeri, and has worked with Ricky Gervais on music for series like David Brent: Life On The Road and the Netflix series Alley Cats>.

Even as he explores his solo path, Burrows remains an integral part of the band Razorlight. The group recently celebrated a reunion of their classic lineup in 2021, following the release of their 2024 album Planet Nowhere. The focus now shifts to Burrows’ expansive vision, showcasing a sound steeped in optimism, shared experience, and the enduring power of personal freedom.
