Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson announce ‘Back To Black 20’ London show
Twenty years ago, a sound arrived that didn’t just change music; it redefined a generation. Now, that seismic shift is being celebrated with a spectacular return to the source as the Amy Winehouse Band announces a massive London event marking two decades of the iconic album, Back To Black.
The celebration is set to take place at the historic Roundhouse in Camden on October 21, just days before the album’s anniversary, promising a night packed with the sounds and energy that made this record a cultural phenomenon.
The show will feature the Amy Winehouse Band performing the complete album in its entirety, led by the legendary production team, including original album producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, along with longtime musical director Dale Davis, Paul O’Duffy, p*nut, and former Island Records president Darcus Beese.
To honour the legacy of the music, the band has handpicked a stellar collection of guest vocalists who will bring fresh, brilliant interpretations to the classics. The lineup includes talents like Jorja Smith, FLO, Jorja Smith, Lianne La Havas, Baby Rose, Corinne Bailey Rae, Jessie Reyez, Nia Smith, Sasha Keable, Skye Newman, and Yebba, ensuring a truly eclectic and captivating performance.
Mark Ronson, one of the core creative forces behind the album, expressed his excitement, noting that doing justice to the legacy of Back To Black was the goal of the night. He reflected on the enduring power of the music, acknowledging how time flies and how much joy it is to see these incredible artists contribute their own versions of beloved tracks.
The significance of the venue cannot be overstated. The Roundhouse itself holds a deeply emotional place in Winehouse’s story, having been the site of her final public appearance on July 20, 2011, where she shared a powerful moment with her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield. It is a place steeped in memory and history.
Beyond the live performance, the celebration also encompasses the enduring impact of the record itself. Back To Black, released in 2006, became a global behemoth, selling more than 25 million copies worldwide and earning Winehouse five Grammy awards, including Record Of The Year for ‘Rehab’. The record continues to resonate, marking not just a musical milestone but a profound cultural moment.
To further this anniversary, a deluxe 20th-anniversary reissue of the album has been announced, set for release on October 23. This expanded edition will feature four previously unreleased demos, rare B-sides, and bonus tracks, alongside Winehouse’s performance from the 2007 tour at Amsterdam’s Paradiso.
The event will not just be a concert; it will be a full-scale homage to an artist who left an indelible mark. As the music continues to echo, the celebration promises to be a vibrant reflection of Amy Winehouse’s timeless and unforgettable legacy.
