Adam Levine floored by Black Sabbath cover on The Voice

The spotlight on The Voice always shines brightest when raw talent meets timeless music, and the latest episode delivered a performance that resonated far beyond the competition stage. During the Season 30 Blind Auditions, 25-year-old Dakota Cohen stepped into the spotlight and delivered a haunting rendition of “Changes,” a classic from the legendary Black Sabbath.

This wasn’t just any song; “Changes” carries a weight of history, originally released on Black Sabbath’s 1972 album Vol. 4 and famously performed by frontman Ozzy Osbourne. Cohen’s vocal delivery captured the melancholy essence of the ballad perfectly, turning a classic into a deeply poignant moment for the audience.

The impact of her performance was immediate and powerful. While many judges were captivated, the reaction from the coaching panel was equally emphatic. Queen Latifah described the audition as “astounding” and “insane,” while coach Riley Green championed the choice, calling it the “perfect song choice.”

The connection between the artist and the judges deepened during the deliberation. Adam Levine, known for his strong sense of musical instinct, made an aggressive pitch, stating that the song choice itself was telling. He noted, “That’s instantly something out of the gate; before I even heard you sing a note, I want you on my team.”

Cohen’s journey was further enriched by a serendipitous connection. Levine drew a parallel between Cohen’s voice and Miley Cyrus, offering a heartfelt endorsement: “I just love what you’re out here doing, and I do believe this is your home.” This connection was amplified by a prior encounter years earlier when Levine had given her a thumbs-up after she performed Maroon 5’s “Sunday Morning.”

The performance gained even more significance given the song’s storied past. After the passing of Ozzy Osbourne in July 2025, “Changes” found a new layer of emotional depth, debuting on the Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart and newly poignant as a primetime cover of one of his most tender vocals.

The unfolding narrative of the Blind Auditions continues to highlight how music bridges generations and deepens personal connections. As the show moves into its 30th season, featuring coaches including Clarkson, Levine, Queen Latifah, and Riley Green, the power of authentic musical expression remains the undeniable star.
