1.8 Million Sign-Ups: RAYE Blames AI Bots for London Show

The digital age, while offering unprecedented access to events, has also introduced a startling new adversary: the automated scalper and the relentless artificial intelligence bot. This tension was brought into sharp focus recently by British singer RAYE, who had to confront a massive disruption in the ticket sales for her upcoming performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The scale of the challenge was staggering. For a one-night-only show, which promised an incredible experience, RAYE’s team registered 1.8 million sign-ups for the presale. However, this deluge of interest was not solely driven by genuine fans; it was heavily exploited by scalpers utilizing AI bots to generate hundreds of thousands of fake registrations.

This situation highlighted a fundamental conflict between the demand for tickets and the desire to ensure fair access for the public. RAYE stressed that it was unacceptable for the integrity of the sales process to be compromised in this manner, emphasizing that fans should be able to purchase tickets at the face value price.

To safeguard the experience for genuine attendees, RAYE‘s team was forced to implement extraordinary measures. Rather than risk opening a presale that could be exploited by fraudulent bots, they decided on a highly cautious approach: manually reviewing the sign-up list to identify a shortlist of legitimate fans.

This process ensured that only real enthusiasts were positioned to receive a presale link and code, with the first sale commencing promptly at midday. The remaining tickets would then proceed to general sale later in the week, establishing a necessary layer of human oversight in a highly automated system.

The experience served as a sobering lesson for the music industry regarding the evolving landscape of event ticketing. RAYE concluded that while she doesn’t know what the future holds, this incident has certainly opened her eyes to the necessity of rethinking how events are managed moving forward.

This Music May Contain Hope, the LP RAYE will reimagine alongside the Heritage Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall, is already garnering significant attention, having reached number one on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart and number eleven on the Billboard 200.
